Our Four star Bistro at 100 Akerwood Visitor Centre in Melrose, Scottish Borders has a new chef joining the team.  At The Melrose Bistro we have a brand new menu.

We are located just outside the ancient town of Melrose in the beautiful Scottish Borders.

How to get there:
By car: Off the B6361 minor road from Melrose Abbey to Newstead along the riverside. Signposted.

By public transport: No public transport past the site, but not too far to walk from Melrose Square on a fine day.

GUIDELINES FOR CHILDREN

Here at 100 Aker Wood Visitor Centre we welcome children and encourage them to visit not only for the fun things we have on offer but for educational purposes as well.

We do however have to enforce certain rules to make 100 Aker Wood a safe environment for them to visit.

We would respectfully ask that these rules are adhered to at all times.

1) Children should not be unsupervised at any time.

New Year, New Chef, New Menus

We are pleased to welcome to our team our new Head Chef, John McKenzie who has a wealth of experience over the past 22 years including Michelin starred and AA rosetted restaurants.
John has worked closely with our existing team and together they have created some new Menus to see us into 2010. These include our new Breakfast Menu which is available from 8am - 12 Noon daily and has some terrific offers as well as delicious choices.

‘The Melrose Bistro’ is in comfortable surroundings where our staff will ensure that you will be looked after throughout your  meal. You can also drop in after enjoying one of the many speciality coffees we have on offer or even something a little stronger as we are licensed to sell alcohol!

The opening of ‘The Melrose Bistro’ coincided with our launch of ‘The Melrose Scone’ which has proven very popular with locals and visitors alike. The combination of treacle, cheese and raisin scones replicate the nearby Eildon hills which are visible from the Bistro. The Black of the treacle and the Yellow of the cheese symbolise the colours of Melrose RFC and the raisins are the shape of the rugby balls.

Vegetarian dishes and specific dietary requirements are all catered for as well as a fantastic children’s menu including lunch boxes with toys to keep the youngsters happy.

We have ample free car parking spaces and all are accessible to wheelchair users. We allow dogs on leads within the Garden Centre and there is fresh water and tethering points, should you wish to go into the main building or Woodland Walk. Guide Dogs have full access to all areas.

Please be aware that we have 2 frame-walkers which are located at the disabled parking area for customers with disabilities. Please feel free to use them - they have shopping baskets on them for you to use. We also have for sale in the gift shop, portable disabled ramps which you can carry with you anywhere or fix them permanently for easy access with your wheelchair. There are also some folding walking sticks for sale at £16.99.

Our Gift Shop is ready to burst with fantastic products. We have children’s toys including the very popular Bruder range of farm vehicles as well as Jaggets dolls for the girls, Woodstock wind chimes, gorgeous blown glass lanterns and a huge selection of lovely fragrant candles.

We also stock beautiful hand crafted cards with continually changing themes from Valentines Day, Easter and Christmas as well as weddings, christenings and sympathy cards.
